Must be able to perform the duties of Data Communications Switching Center Specialist (72G40); supervises data communications switching center operations in fixed or mobile ADMSC configuration; supervises operation of data communications systems; employs regulations and directives applicable to data communications operation; performs office management; assists in problem solving pertinent to programming, tributaries, equipment, maintenance, and administration of data communications system; prepares reports and provides technical information on cryptographic and data communications center operation to command and staff sections; supervises organization, training, and technical operations of unit to which assigned; provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds first sergeants' or sergeants' major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.
Must be able to perform the duties of Data Communications Terminal Specialist (72F20); supervises data communications terminal operations and equipment maintenance activities; observes and corrects faulty work procedures, evaluates subordinate personnel, makes work assignments and coordinates work activities; assures transmission and physical security; facilitates traffic routing by coordination with ADMSC. Operates data communication terminal equipment; processes and delivers messages; reviews data presented for adherence to procedures, format, routing, and precedence for input to an automated data communications network; attends and operates teletypewriter and data communications terminal equipment; operates control equipment to integrate teletype systems with digital network; receives, processes, and forwards traffic; monitors, acknowledges, and takes action when alarms denote equipment malfunctions, message discrepancies, or circuit failure; analyzes display and status panels to correct message errors and machine stoppages; recognizes and corrects message format discrepancies causing a reject or cancellation by Automatic Digital; message Switching Centers (ADMSC); assigns computer terminal equipment configuration for on-line operation, off-line standby, off-line operation, and maintenance functions; prepares messages into paper tape or card form for transmission; prepares messages into page copy and makes local delivery; conducts tests and provides statistics to determine the degree of in-station traffic handling efficiency; prepares a perforated tape or cards containing computer instructions; transmits instructions to a digital computer; transmits, receives, and interprets procedural, supervisory, service messages on network operation, and performs actions required; keeps master station logs of equipment status and significant events; receives, stores, employs, destroys, and accounts for all classified and cryptographic material; complies with established directives for storage, processing, updating, inventory, identification, record keeping and emergency destruction of all magnetic tapes, cards, paper tape, page copy and core memory devices; performs preventive maintenance on data communications terminal equipment.
