Supervises or operates wheel vehicles to transport personnel and cargo.

Operates all wheel vehicles and equipment over varied terrain and roadways for support of combat operations; manage entrucking and detrucking of personnel being transported; oversees and checks proper loading and unloading of cargo on vehicles and trailers; secure cargo against inclement weather, pilferage and damage; operates vehicle component material handling equipment (MHE), as required; employs land navigation techniques; must be knowledgeable of tactical automated communications systems and weapons when they are mounted on the vehicle; corrects and reports all vehicle deficiencies; supports mechanics where necessary; prepare vehicles for movement/shipment by air, rail, or vessel; supervises and provides technical guidance to subordinate in accomplishing their duties; organizes and participates in convoys; dispatches vehicles; verifies vehicle logbooks; receives and fills requests from authorized persons for motor transportation; compiles time, mileage and load data; operates the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT), Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET), and Palletized Loading System (HEMTT-LHS/PLS), and MRAP All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) vehicles to include performing self recovery operations; supervises drivers performing Preventive Maintenance Check, and Services (PMCS) on vehicles; operate in the truck terminal as a squad leader; trains new drivers and manages the driver sustainment training program; plans, organizes, and operates a motor vehicle convoy; perform convoy route reconnaissance; commands a convoy or convoy security element; prepares OPORD/OPLAN/CONOP and overlays.

The transportation senior sergeant supervises the operation and control of movement for personnel and cargo by air, rail, motor transport and water, maintenance-of-way, maintenance of equipment and technical expert on all matters relating to railway operations; manages and coordinates the operation and maintenance of Army watercraft and maintains records of strength, location and employment of railway personnel equipment; serves as the principal NCO associated with SQI M in transportation companies; assist in the coordination and implementation of operations, administration, training programs and communications activities; account for location, employment and deployment of organic operating equipment and maintenance activities; plans and lays out a maintenance shop and facilities; coordinate transportation actions with subordinate and serviced activities; consolidates, prepares, reviews and processes regular and special reports of command transportation and watercraft activities; plans, manages, and monitors unit motor transport operations as the senior truckmaster; establishes and organizes the unit motor park; prepares and implements the truck company security and defense plan; prepares map overlays; receives and prepares highway reconnaissance data for motor convoy transport; supervises and directs unit dispatching of vehicles; coordinates engineer requirements to support a truck battalion; provides advice and makes recommendations to the commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted soldiers and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections, visits and ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities, facilities and personnel as prescribed by the commander; ensures adherence to command policies; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instruction; ensures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs of the service and command regulations or policies; responsible for monitoring training or conducts training of enlisted soldiers; assesses training at all levels and provides feedback to appropriate commanders and leaders; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted soldiers of the command; responsible for and provides guidance on Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and Non-Commissioned Officer Development Program (NCODP); inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; serves as president or member of command promotion board or removal board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; sits as chairperson or member of a command's Military Member of the Quarter/Year competition for enlisted soldiers or NCOs, as directed by local regulations; responsible for quality, control and training of noncommissioned officer evaluation reports (NCOER) while ensuring timely submissions; reviews evaluation reports to determine compliance with policies and procedures and recommends corrective actions on deficiencies to commanders, other leaders and rating officials; performs other duties prescribed by the commander; assists in the professional development of junior and company grade officers.
