Sizes, fits, and sews new, worn, or damaged clothing, using machine or hand-sewing procedures.

Must know structure and construction of individual clothing and textile items; must know principles of textile inspection, marking, classification, and resizing; must know fundamentals of weaving for repairing heavier clothing, sleeping bags, wet weather wear, and heavier textile materials; must know clothing fitting procedures; must be able to match grain and color of fabrics; must know how to measure clothing and perform authorized alterations and repairs; must know capabilities and limitations of sewing equipment; must know preventive maintenance principles and procedures; must know how to perform field operations and preventive maintenance on a mobile clothing repair trailer; must know forms and records required in fixed shop operations; must be qualified as Textile Repairman (43J20); must know classification of repair equipment and clothing and textile items; must know organization and administration of clothing and textile repair sections and relation to other salvage repair activities; must be able to check measurements and resizing, detect and correct faulty work; must be able to assist in controlling and expediting repair activities; must be able to supervise operations and preventive maintenance tasks performed by textile repairmen in both mobile and fixed shop operations; must know equipment maintenance forms, reports, and records.

Provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds first sergeants' or sergeants' major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.

Must be able to perform the duties of Textile Repairman (43J), Canvas Repairman (43K); or Shoe Repairman (43L); serves as principal technical supervisor in activity concerned with repair of textile and leather items such as tents, paulins, shoes, and clothing; assigns work orders to subordinate personnel; instructs in repair and salvage procedures and techniques; supervises inspection of work performed; determines type of repair required; expedites repair work to meet work schedules; plans and organizes work schedules; schedules maintenance of textile and leather machinery; ensures high productivity of repair unit and quality of workmanship performed; submits reports on unit progress upon request; coordinates various quartermaster maintenance activities; supervises movement and placement of repair trailers in mobile units; must be able to perform the duties of Duty Foreman (57G40); serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.
