Performs support maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.

Must be qualified as Aircraft Armament Repairman (45J20); must know procedures for maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aircraft armament components; must know capabilities of maintenance equipment and subordinate personnel to establish workload schedules and priorities; must know administrative procedures and supply channels of unit to which assigned; must be able to plan and lay out maintenance shops to obtain maximum utilization of tools, equipment, and personnel; must be able to diagnose and determine causes of unusual malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aircraft armament components and direct corrective action; must be able to apply safety procedures pertaining to aircraft armament support maintenance; must be able to interpret and apply information contained in technical publications and schematic diagrams related to maintenance of aircraft armament components; must be able to establish maintenance controls and performance standards; must be able to organize and supervise inspection and maintenance teams; must be able to evaluate work performance of subordinates in terms of compliance with policies, directives, technical publications, and regulations; must be able to instruct in aircraft armament maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aircraft armament components; must be qualified as Armament Maintenance Foreman (45Z40); must know technical or tactical missions, responsibilities, and operations of unit to which assigned; must know military subjects, Army clerical and administrative procedures, regulations, and directives applicable to unit staff operations; must know channels of communications, supply, and maintenance; must be able to utilize TOE, TDA, supply bulletins, and modification work orders; must be able to plan, coordinate, supervise activities pertaining to organization, training, and tactical and technical operations of subordinate units or major rebuild activities.

Must know scope and techniques for maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aircraft armament subsystems components; must know electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical fundamentals applicable to components maintained; must know operation, construction, and functioning of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aircraft armament components, associated maintenance equipment, and simulators to include location and nomenclature of components; must know safety precautions to be exercised in test operation and maintenance of aircraft armament systems; must be able to apply maintenance techniques and procedures of inspection, testing, troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, assembly, and adjustment of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic aircraft armament components; must be able to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical and hydraulic systems diagrams and understand related technical literature; must be able to interpret modification work orders and apply them to aircraft armament systems; must be able to use electrician's and mechanic's hand tools and ancillary equipment such as test stands, power supplies and power carts; must be able to use test and measuring equipment and interpret and apply information obtained from their use; must be able to solve standard formulas to check tolerances.

The mechanical maintenance supervisor supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the unit, direct support and general support (DS/GS) maintenance of all mechanical equipment; (1) serving as principal maintenance or operations NCO in maintenance battalion or higher level organization; (2) supervising personnel performing the duties of (a) Machinist (44E4O); (b) Armament/fire control maintenance supervisor (45Z4O); (c) Construction equipment repairer (62B4O); (d) Track vehicle repairer (63H4O).
