Performs organizational, direct support, and general support maintenance on railway passenger, freight, and hospital cars.

Must be able to supervise personnel performing duties of MOS 65B, 65D, 65G, 65H, 65J or 65K at the 4 skill level; serves as principal NCO in railway operating, maintenance-of-way or repair company, or operations section of railway battalion or higher level organization; advises on all matters relating to railway operations, maintenance-of-way, and repair; monitors and controls railway, passenger, and freight traffic; prepares, reproduces, and distributes operation reports; edits and prepares training material; assists in coordination and implementation of operations, training programs, and administrative activities; maintains records of strength, location and employment of railway personnel, and equipment; coordinates railway operations and maintenance; consolidates, prepares, reviews, and processes regular and special reports of command railway activities; performs principal noncommissioned officer duties associated with SQI M; provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.

Must be able to perform the duties of Railway Car Repairman (65D20); supervises inspection and organizational, direct and general support maintenance on railway passenger, freight, and hospital cars; plans, organizes and coordinates work activity of railway car repair section, teams, or platoons engaged in erecting, maintaining, inspecting, and/or salvaging railway cars; instructs repairman in proper maintenance techniques and safety procedures; calculates man-hour, personnel, and material requirements for specific repair work; resolves technical problems encountered in railway car maintenance; applies quality control techniques and procedures to maintenance operation; must be able to supervise personnel performing duties of MOS 65B, 65D, 65G, 65H, 65J or 65K at the 4 skill level; serves as principal NCO in railway operating, maintenance-of-way or repair company, or operations section of railway battalion or higher level organization; advises on all matters relating to railway operations, maintenance-of-way, and repair; monitors and controls railway, passenger, and freight traffic; prepares, reproduces, and distributes operation reports; edits and prepares training material; assists in coordination and implementation of operations, training programs, and administrative activities; maintains records of strength, location and employment of railway personnel, and equipment; coordinates railway operations and maintenance; consolidates, prepares, reviews, and processes regular and special reports of command railway activities; performs principal noncommissioned officer duties associated with SQI M.

Performs or inspects organizational, direct support and general support maintenance on railway passenger, freight, and hospital cars; directs and assists Railway Car Repairman Apprentice in dismantling and reassembling major components such as truck and wheel assemblies, lighting equipment, safety appliances, and auxiliary equipment; examines car wheels, axles, journals, journal bearings, and draft gear for structural and safety defects; inspects and repairs safety appliances and examines interiors of cars for defects which interfere with proper loading; inspects car underframes and crossbearers for cracks, stress breaks, and broken rivets; inspects, as assembles, repairs, adjusts, and reassembles handbrake mechanisms, including handwheels, staffs, gear ratchets, and linkage; inspects and repairs center sills and body bolsters; removes broken, rotted, or warped boards from floors, roofs, and sides of cars and selects, measures, and cuts lumber for replacement; burns out ripped or punctured steel sections of metal cars and patches by riveting or welding; straightens bent sections of bodies by hydraulic jacking; straightens bent end and side sills, and straightens, patches, and braces side sheets of open-top cars; assists in salvage of cars and in rehabilitation of captured enemy rolling stock; performs technical inspection of railway cars to insure that proper maintenance has been accomplished; interprets technical blueprints and sketches; must be able to perform the duties of Airbrake Repairer (65E20) and Railway Car Repairer (65D20); supervises small activity involved in repair of railway cars and airbrake systems of locomotives and cars; plans, organizes and coordinates work activity of railway car repair section teams or platoons engaged in erecting, maintaining, inspecting, and/or salvaging railway cars; instructs repairman in proper maintenance techniques and safety procedures; calculates man-hour, personnel, and material requirements for specific repair work; resolves technical problems encountered in railway car and airbrake maintenance; prepares detail technical reports of airbrake inspections and repairs; applies quality control techniques and procedures to maintenance operations.
