Supervises or inspects, services and repairs airbrake systems of locomotives and cars.

Inspects, services, and repairs airbrake systems of locomotives and cars; inspects car and locomotive airbrakes for defective valves, air pipes, air hoses, chains, control levers, control lever connections, and brake hangers; dismantles, cleans, and lubricates airbrake valves, pistons, and piston rods; scrapes, washes, and greases airbrake testing machines; removes work chains, loose pins, nuts, bolts, and screws, and installs replacements; cuts out defective sections of air pipes, and measures, cuts, threads, installs, and connects new sections of air pipe; tests operation of valves and security of airhoses; measures and adjusts piston stroke required for maximum efficiency; stencils date of repair work or inspection on outside of brake cylinder and records date of repairs, kind of repairs, and car or engine number of airbrake in airbrake logbook; prepares written reports of defects; must be able to perform the duties of Airbrake Repairer (65E20) and Railway Car Repairer (65D20); supervises small activity involved in repair of railway cars and airbrake systems of locomotives and cars; plans, organizes and coordinates work activity of railway car repair section teams or platoons engaged in erecting, maintaining, inspecting, and/or salvaging railway cars; instructs repairman in proper maintenance techniques and safety procedures; calculates man-hour, personnel, and material requirements for specific repair work; resolves technical problems encountered in railway car and airbrake maintenance; prepares detail technical reports of airbrake inspections and repairs; applies quality control techniques and procedures to maintenance operations.

Must be able to perform the duties of Airbrake Repairman (MOSC 65E20); supervises the inspection, servicing, and repairing of airbrake systems of locomotives and cars; requisitions parts, materials, and tools for maintenance and repair of airbrakes; interprets technical publications, work orders, diagrams, and policies on maintenance, inspection, and repair of airbrakes; prepares repair instructions and specifications; prepares detailed technical reports of airbrake inspections and repairs; demonstrates techniques for difficult repairs on airbrakes; conducts on-the-job training of subordinates; must be able to supervise personnel performing duties of MOS 65B, 65D, 65G, 65H, 65J or 65K at the 4 skill level; serves as principal NCO in railway operating, maintenance-of-way or repair company, or operations section of railway battalion or higher level organization; advises on all matters relating to railway operations, maintenance-of-way, and repair; monitors and controls railway, passenger, and freight traffic; prepares, reproduces, and distributes operation reports; edits and prepares training material; assists in coordination and implementation of operations, training programs, and administrative activities; maintains records of strength, location and employment of railway personnel, and equipment; coordinates railway operations and maintenance; consolidates, prepares, reviews, and processes regular and special reports of command railway activities; performs principal noncommissioned officer duties associated with SQI M.

Must be able to supervise personnel performing duties of MOS 65B, 65D, 65G, 65H, 65J or 65K at the 4 skill level; serves as principal NCO in railway operating, maintenance-of-way or repair company, or operations section of railway battalion or higher level organization; advises on all matters relating to railway operations, maintenance-of-way, and repair; monitors and controls railway, passenger, and freight traffic; prepares, reproduces, and distributes operation reports; edits and prepares training material; assists in coordination and implementation of operations, training programs, and administrative activities; maintains records of strength, location and employment of railway personnel, and equipment; coordinates railway operations and maintenance; consolidates, prepares, reviews, and processes regular and special reports of command railway activities; performs principal noncommissioned officer duties associated with SQI M; provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.
