Performs organizational, direct and general support maintenance, excluding any repair of system components, on U-1A airplanes; conducts scheduled and special inspections, diagnoses operational defects, services systems, adjusts or replaces parts or assemblies as authorized by maintenance doctrine and maintenance allocation charts; determines serviceability of airplane systems by performing maintenance operational checks and inspections; troubleshoots and diagnoses all systems on airplane to detect present and incipient malfunctions by performing series of tests with diagnostic test equipment; tightens, adjusts, removes and replaces components, assemblies and subassemblies with common and special tools and precision measuring instruments; assists component repairman in removal and replacement of U-1A engines; performs rigging of engine fuel system; removes and replaces engine carburetor; inspects, removes and replaces fuselage components such as cabin floor sections, doors, handles, latches, vents, alighting gear, and flight control surfaces; inspects for serviceability and removes and replaces defective seat belts, shoulder harnesses, seats and upholstery; removes and replaces propeller and propeller accessories; rigs and tracks propeller; performs flight control rigging; removes and replaces hydraulic system components such as pumps, reservoirs, valves, hoses, and power cylinders; removes and replaces defective gages and instruments such as clock, attitude and airspeed indicators, altimeter, tachometer, and oil temperature gages; adjusts and replaces voltage regulators and replaces other electrical system components such as generator, battery, starter switches, circuit breakers, and lights; removes and replaces components of personnel heater system; assists in computing airplane weight and balance; determines parts, tools, equipment, and maintenance assistance required; interprets wiring and schematic diagrams, complex technical instructions, plans and blueprints; employs ground support and auxiliary equipment; disassembles U-1A airplanes for repair, storage, transit, and aerial evacuation; identifies corrosion and applies preventive measures; employs ground safety precautions and in-flight emergency procedures; observes proper cargo loading, lashing and unloading techniques; performs tests for detecting cracks, dents, breaks, scratches and fissures in metal, plastic and fiberglass parts of airplane; performs complete technical inspection of installed assemblies and systems on airplane and determines that completed repairs comply with prescribed standards; instructs and demonstrates maintenance and safety techniques; performs duties of crew chief.
Must be able to perform duties of any MOS in CMF 67 at the grade E-6 level; serves as principal NCO of aircraft maintenance units; plans and lays out aircraft maintenance and components repair shops and facilities; advises in diagnosing complex malfunctions and determining maintenance required; coordinates work, assigns duties, and instructs subordinates in maintenance work techniques and procedures; insures that proper maintenance techniques have been employed by inspections; assists in preparation of plans, policies, and procedures for maintenance operations; supervises and participates in preparation of studies, evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance and components repair operations, training, and related activities; supervises the preparation of work orders, requisitions, recurring reports, and correspondence; applies production and quality control principles and procedures; processes work orders and allocates maintenance responsibilities; recommends such actions as reassignment of duties and requirements for training to improve work performance; supervises aircraft maintenance detachment or comparable type unit; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leaves, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action; provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.
