Job Detail

Repairs, modifies, and overhauls helicopter rotor blades and airplane propeller systems.

Must be qualified as Aircraft Rotor and Propeller Repairman (68E20); must know technical mission, responsibilities, and operations of unit to which assigned; must know support and depot maintenance practices, procedures and techniques applicable to rotor blades and propeller systems; must know capabilities and limitations of subordinate personnel and shop equipment to plan work flow in terms of resources and facilities; must know and be able to apply production control, quality control, and other maintenance management principles and procedures to shop operations; must know proper channels and procedures for obtaining spare parts, tools, and supplies; must know prescribed maintenance standards for rotor blades and propeller systems, and be able to diagnose malfunctions and inspect rotor blades and propeller systems before, during, and after repair, modification, or overhaul; must be able to instruct subordinate personnel in rotor blade and propeller systems maintenance practices and procedures; must be able to read, understand, and interpret technical literature pertaining to rotor blades and propeller systems; must be able to prepare forms and reports pertaining to aircraft maintenance operations; must be qualified in any MOS in Career Group 67 or 68 at the grade E-6 level; must know technical mission, responsibilities, and operations of unit to which assigned and operation of major functional activities within units and organizations responsible for aircraft operations and maintenance; must be able to direct, coordinate, and supervise personnel in aircraft maintenance; must know capabilities and limitations of subordinate personnel and shop equipment to plan work flow in terms of resources and facilities; must know procedures, practices, and techniques applicable to all levels of maintenance; must know and be able to apply production and quality control principles and procedures to maintenance operations; must know proper channels for procuring repair parts, tools, and supplies; must be able to plan and lay out aircraft maintenance facilities to obtain maximum use of personnel and equipment; must be able to evaluate capabilities and limitations of supported units; must be able to prepare and review studies, routine and special reports, and records covering operations, training and related matters; must know military subjects including drill and parade formations, field sanitation, field mess operations, selection of bivouac areas, and use of unit weapons; must know techniques and tactics of unit defense; must know Army clerical, personnel and administrative procedures and regulations, applicable to aviation units; must know preparation of unit correspondence, orders, schedules, morning report, duty roster, and other reports; must be able to use TOE, MTOE, TDA, MTDA, CTA, supply bulletins, and modification work orders; must have fundamental knowledge of requisitioning and storage of food rations, preparation and serving of food, and care of mess equipment to assure that unit mess meets prescribed standards; must know principles of military justice and counseling techniques; must possess high degree of leadership ability by demonstrating initiative, vigor, courage, aggressiveness, will power, decisiveness, self-confidence, and skill in leading men and directing group activities to common goals; must be able to plan, coordinate, and supervise activities pertaining to organization, training, tactical, and technical operations of unit; must be able to interpret and supervise execution of unit commander's policy and unit SOP; must know office management and supervisory techniques and responsibilities; must know precedence of military directives; must know Army chain of command and lines of communication; must know organization and operation of administrative message centers; must know how to use directives, manuals, and regulations to locate specific policies and procedures when needed; must know precautions to be used in handli

Must know construction, types, nomenclature, and principles of operation of component parts of rotor blades and fixed pitch and variable pitch propellers; must know troubleshooting techniques applicable to rotor blades and propeller assemblies; must know procedures for repairing rotor blades and propellers including applicable wood- and metal-working and bonding techniques; must know methods of checking rotor and propeller blades for track, balance, and alignment; must know use and disposition of aircraft maintenance forms and records; must be able to repair and overhaul propeller assemblies and spinners, feathering pumps and motors, governor assemblies, and other propeller components and accessories; must be able to perform authorized rotor blade and propeller assembly modifications; must be able to use and maintain special tools, precision instruments, and test equipment used in maintenance of rotor blades and propellers; must be able to use maintenance directives and publications, and to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams pertaining to rotor blades and propellers.
