Supervises or draws working plans for construction of bridges, airfields, roads, railroads, piers, buildings, and heating and ventilating systems.
Serves as Construction Draftsman or Design Draftsman; lays out various details to scale with pencil and such drawing equipment as straight edges, triangles, T-squares, protractors, compasses, French curves, and dividers; employs knowledge of general construction principles and methods and applies mathematics to include algebra and plane geometry in drawing construction plans; plots profiles for construction of roads, railroads and other military construction projects from survey notes, or from large scale contour maps; finishes drawings in ink or pencil; letters material in freehand or by mechanical means using letter templates; enters identifying information and adds notes to clarify presentation of dimensional information and convey supplemental instructions; employs conventional symbols, shadings and profiles for representing parts and materials; modifies, corrects, or improves drawings to conform to specifications; assists design officer in modification of designs of steel, concrete or wood structures, or their details.
Must be able to perform the duties of Construction Draftsman, 81B20; supervises personnel, and plans, assigns and coordinates drafting, model making, and illustrating activities; plans and organizes work schedules, assigns duties, and instructs personnel in work techniques and procedures; operates calculator, planimeter and slide rule; designs bridges, imple beams, and columns; employs principles of electricity, trigonometry, and surveying; applies knowledge of process of machine, foundry, pattern, and sheet metal shops in developing construction plans; explains and demonstrates techniques of construction and general drafting; requisitions supplies and prepares, reviews and consolidates technical, personnel and administrative reports; must be able to perform the duties of Construction Foreman (51H40); serves as principal NCO of engineer construction company or as staff NCO in operations or engineer section of battalion or higher level headquarters; plans, coordinates, and supervises activities pertaining to organization, training, and tactical and technical operations of unit concerned primarily with construction; assists in planning construction procedures, specifications, work schedules, and materiel needs; schedules use of heavy equipment; assists in development of troop training schedules; adapts training guides, programs, and tests to fit needs; schedules use of training aids and facilities; inspects training activities to insure standards are met and methods of instruction are effective; keeps records of training and construction projects; assists in appraisal of construction intelligence, operations, and training situations; inspects structures and facilities; collects, prepares, and disseminates material and data pertaining to construction intelligence, operations and training; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishment, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.
