Supervises multilith and offset press and bindery operations, or operates offset press.
Operates lithographic offset press to reproduce maps, charts, illustrations, or other related material in one or more colors; services, cleans and prepares press for operations; examines and compares printing plates and proof copy for defects, errors, or damage; mixes water and etch solution and fills water fountain; measures rubber blanket and plate with micrometer, and underpacks with paper to bring to proper adjustment; makes adjustments to paper feeder and delivery mechanisms; fills ink fountain; adjusts pressure of ink from roller against plate cylinder; washes protective coating from printing plate; detects printing or operating imperfections and takes remedial action to prevent damage to equipment or waste of materials; realigns incorrectly positioned printing image and corrects imperfect lines or lettering with hard pencil, tusche, or brass scriber; controls amount of ink transmitted to plate by manipulating feed screws; adjusts paper feed and guide as required during press run; adjusts, replaces, or repairs worn or broken parts; observes safety precautions when working with solvents and inflammable materials and rapidly moving press parts; trains helpers to operate and perform organizational maintenance on printing equipment.
Provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds first sergeants' or sergeants' major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.
Must be able to perform the duties of Offset Pressman, 83F20; supervises multilith and offset press operators, and bindery activities; estimates and evaluates work requirements and supply needs; supervises operation of offset presses and multilith duplicating machines; directs and coordinates activities of bindery workers with work of other units; sets up and utilizes control and scheduling system used in offset printing; detects offset press equipment malfunctions by sound or action of equipment; supervises organizational maintenance of offset presses, to include replacement or repair of faulty parts, and adjustment of presses to restore them to efficient working operation; supervises organizational maintenance of multilith duplicating machines; explains and demonstrates operation of lithograph and multilith machines; demonstrates and instructs personnel in approved techniques of bindery operations; at E8, serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operations of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.
