Participates in aerial observation operations in the observation/scout helicopter.

Provides tactical and technical expertise to subordinates and superiors in aviation operations; plans, coordinates, and supervises activities pertaining to organization, training, combat operations and combat intelligence; coordinates implementation of operations, training programs, and communications activities; plans, organizes, and manages ATC facilities; serves as Chief Instructor in the ATC school; serves as ATC operations NCO in ATC Battalion, Brigade and ATC school and as Senior Staff NCO at Bde level or higher.

Plans, organizes, and manages ATC facilities; serves as Chief Instructor in the ATC school; serves as ATC operations NCO in ATC Battalion, Brigade, and ATC school and as Senior Staff NCO at Brigade level or higher; provides advice and makes recommendations to the commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted soldiers and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections, visits and ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities, facilities and personnel as prescribed by the commander; ensures adherence to command policies; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instruction; ensures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs of the service and command regulations or policies; responsible for monitoring training or conducts training of enlisted soldiers; assesses training at all levels and provides feedback to appropriate commanders and leaders; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted soldiers of the command; responsible for and provides guidance on Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and Non-Commissioned Officer Development Program (NCODP); inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; serves as president or member of command promotion board or removal board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; sits as chairperson or member of a command's Military Member of the Quarter/Year competition for enlisted soldiers or NCOs, as directed by local regulations; responsible for quality, control and training of noncommissioned officer evaluation reports (NCOER) while ensuring timely submissions; reviews evaluation reports to determine compliance with policies and procedures and recommends corrective actions on deficiencies to commanders, other leaders and rating officials; performs other duties prescribed by the commander; assists in the professional development of junior and company grade officer.

Locates a target by grid coordinates; performs navigation by pilot age and dead reckoning; locates geographic coordinates on a map; communicates by radio following established procedures; transmits information using visual signaling techniques; performs as a crewmember; performs flight mission planning; recognizes hazards to flight; performs before takeoff, before landing and after landing checks; prepares situation report and spot reports; assists with radio navigation and vertical helicopter Instrument Flight Rules recovery; locates aeronautical data in DOD Flight Information Publications; operates Identification Friend or Foe equipment/Selective Identification Feature; assists with emergency procedures and performs emergency aircraft handling; performs aerial observation; identifies allied and threat equipment and personnel; directs close air support strikes; calls for/adjusts indirect fire; performs target hand off to attack helicopters; performs aerial radiological survey; calls and controls tactical airstrike/joint air attack team; formulates and transmits a pilot report; provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel; prepares and distributes operations maps and overlays; identifies location, strength and tactical deployment of enemy and friendly units; interprets maps and aerial photographs; marks vehicle routes on map; reproduces, distributes and files documents; provides information for tactical deployment; collects, reports, and evaluates intelligence information; coordinates with adjacent and supporting elements; evaluates routes and assembly areas for aerial combat operations; prepares, assembles and distributes an operation plan/operation order/annex; prepares fragmentary and warning orders; requests preplanned close air support; prepares enemy/friendly situation map.
