Must know strength and uses of various sizes of rope and wire rope and techniques of splicing; must know mechanical advantages of different combinations of block and tackle and of rigging devices and standard expedients; must know how to prepare dependable anchorages; must be able to tie all standard knots and know their use and holding power; must be able to explain and demonstrate methods and procedures of rigging; must know methods of heating, bucking, and driving rivets; must know maintenance requirements of assigned equipment; must be able to read construction blueprints or other building plans; must be able to use oxyacetylene torch in cutting or welding steel members.
