Supervises, operates, and performs deck duties on Army watercraft and amphibians.
Supervises operation of large boat crew or assists in maintaining control of Army watercraft operations; receives instructions from higher grade marine personnel; performs supervisory and managerial duties indicated in preceding level of skill; establishes and operates control center to obtain maximum efficiency in loading and unloading Army watercraft; coordinates work activity of element; reviews, consolidates, and prepares technical, personnel, and administrative reports covering units activities; must be able to perform the duties of any one of the MOS in the CMF Sub-field 653 at the skill level 4; serves as principal noncommissioned officer of company or as operations sergeant in battalion or comparable unit engaged in operations or maintenance of amphibians, landing, or harbor craft; performs duties of operations sergeant; prepares reports and advises on matters pertaining to marine maintenance and operations; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leaves, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action; serves as Chief Instructor in a training facility, Chief Adviser to a reserve component unit, or Chief Adviser to a foreign military unit.
Performs general marine duties; receives instructions from higher grade marine personnel; assists in docking, undocking, and anchoring by untying, paying out, taking in, or securing lines, ropes, and hawsers; assists in loading and unloading cargo, using deck machinery such as capstans, winches, electrical hoists, and davits; scrubs decks and cleans engine room, compartments, cabins and quarters; prepares surface for painting, mixes paint, and paints wood, metal, and plastic fixtures and surfaces; stands lookout watch and reports objects sighted and sounds heard; assists in inspection, servicing, and operation of fire equipment lifeboats, and rafts; rigs and lashes to secure cargo and to moor Army watercraft, using basic knots and hitches; performs preventive maintenance and inspection on Army watercraft; serves as relief operator on Army watercraft; steers and manipulates control levers to maneuver Army watercraft; uses simple sounding devices, aids to navigation, steering compass courses, and running lights; employs fire and emergency rescue procedures; identifies single-letter international code flags and interprets special meaning when flags are flown singly; employs basic formations in daylight and blackout conditions; communicates with stations ashore and afloat by radio; operates and dispatches Army watercraft; performs seaman and watercraft operational duties indicated in preceding level of skill; applies principle of piloting and dead reckoning; takes bearings by using on-board basic navigational instruments and by aligning watercraft with known landmarks or buoys; transmits and receives messages with blinker signal by International Morse Code; manipulates helm and engine control levers to beach, re-track from beach, dock and undock, tow vessels, and overtake and pass other vessels; allocates Army watercraft and operators to specific missions; keeps records of watercraft status and movements; performs as large amphibian vehicle operator and supervises operation of large amphibian vehicle or watercraft, small boat crew, or light or medium amphibian section or squad; receives instructions from higher grade marine personnel; applies capabilities, limitations, and missions of Army watercraft in assignment and is patching operations; plans and controls formations during movement; provides berthing and unberthing services to large or oceangoing vessels; computes fuel requirements based on number of craft and amphibian involved and length of trip; plans maintenance to assure that servicing and minor repairs will not interfere with regular or special operations; employs procedures for abandoning ships, including sea rescue and lifeboat operations; supervises embarking and debarking of troops; instructs personnel in watercraft and amphibian operational practices, procedures, and techniques.
