Assists in technical and tactical operations of chemical units; handles and assists in the employment of CBR weapons and munitions.
Must be able to perform the duties of Chemical Equipment Repairman, 54D40 or Chemical Staff Specialist, 54E40; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.
Must know characteristics and combat uses of smoke; must know markings and function of all types of CBR munitions; must know safety procedures and regulations for handling and transporting CBR munitions; must know the characteristics of riot control agents and handling procedures of bulk riot control compounds; must know procedures for preparation of herbicides in aerial and ground operations; must know procedures for mounting the concealed personnel detector in aircraft; must know the operation of the concealed personnel detector; must know rudiments of camouflage, construction of expedient field fortifications, infantry defensive tactics, and field communications; must know types of smoke generating devices; must know chemical agents and effects of weather and terrain thereon; must know principles of field sanitation; must know safety precautions to observe when working in contaminated areas; must know types of standard decontaminants; must know types of chemical equipment; must know use of mechanics' common hand and power tools; must be able to administer first aid; must be able to assist in operation and maintenance of smoke generating devices; must know operation and operator's maintenance of flame weapons and flame fuel servicing equipment; must be able to assist in organizational maintenance of concealed personnel detection equipment; must be able to operate and assist in the maintenance of assigned vehicles; must be able to assist operator in operation and maintenance of power driven decontamination apparatus.
