Supervises, inspects or repairs hulls and accessories of Army harbor craft and amphibians.
Repairs or inspects hulls and accessories; repairs steel, fiberglass, aluminum and plastic hulls, superstructures, fittings, piping, foundations, internal structure, pressure vessels, propellers, rudders and accessories of Army harbor craft and amphibians, both self-propelled and nonpropelled; plans and directs necessary blocking, chocking and cradling to lift, transport, store or dock harbor craft, landing craft and amphibians on marine railways, graving or floating drydocks or beaches; lays out, measures, cuts, shapes and fabricates plastic and metal structures and parts; joins, fastens and calks new or repaired portions of the ship's hull by pinning, bolting, cementing, riveting or welding; operates and keeps all hand and power tools and machinery used in hull repair; lays out ship's lines and makes molds and templates; employs rigging techniques for precise removal and replacement of equipment piping, wiring and machinery; joins metal to metal by bolts and rivets, and by oxyacetylene, electric arc and inert gas shielded welding processes; crops damaged plates, framing, and fittings; applies techniques of straightening, fairing and curving damaged plate and framework so as not to distort or weaken hull; installs cathodes, eliminates current grounds and prevents juxtaposition of electrolytically reactive metals cleans, finishes and preserves metal surfaces, by scaling, scraping and sandblasting; employs working drawings of floating craft or amphibians to produce required shape, dimensions and fit of plates, planking, framing and fitting' cuts, develops, and forms steel, aluminum or other metals to forms, molds and templates by cold or hot processes in place, or on the bending table; applies soft patches of metal or other materials, using gaskets, bolts, toggles, wedges, shims, chains, wire rope turnbuckles, shores and other methods for damage control.
Must be able to perform the duties of Marine Hull Repairman (61F20); supervises the repair of hulls and accessories of Army harbor craft and amphibians; prepares maintenance records, reports, and work orders; estimates floating craft and amphibian hull repair work in terms of time, material, manpower and priorities; inspects damaged vessel and determines extent and sequence of repair work required; estimates all costs and establishes priority of tasks; supervises lifting of hulls by crane, hauling on marine railways, docking in floating or graving drydocks, beaching in tidal areas, or partial lifting by ballasting, strops and pontoons; supervises salvage operations on stranded or sunken craft or amphibian; conducts on-the-job training; must be able to perform the duties of any one of the MOS in the CMF Sub-field 653 at the skill level 4; serves as principal noncommissioned officer of company or as operations sergeant in battalion or comparable unit engaged in operations or maintenance of amphibians, landing, or harbor craft; performs duties of operations sergeant; prepares reports and advises on matters pertaining to marine maintenance and operations; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leaves, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action; serves as Chief Instructor in a training facility, Chief Adviser to a reserve component unit, or Chief Adviser to a foreign military unit.
