Supervises detection, acquisition, location, identification and exploitation of foreign communications.
The signals intelligence senior sergeant and signals intelligence chief serves as the principal enlisted assistant to commanders and heads of staff elements, and as staff NCO for major commands, fixed and tactical units engaged in signals intelligence/electronic warfare (SIGINT/EW) operations and combat development, or training; supervises SIGINT/EW activities and provides technical, operational, and administrative guidance and direction to enlisted Soldiers at all echelons; reviews, evaluates, prepares and executes SIGINT/EW deployment, employment, and redeployment plans and orders; interpret intelligence requirements for translation into SIGINT/EW tasking; reviews SIGINT/EW doctrinal publications and prepares recommended changes; compares modification Tables of Organization and Equipment (MTOE) and Tables of Distribution and Allowances (TDA) authorization documents with SIGINT/EW missions and functions and recommends revisions; provides advice and makes recommendations to the commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted soldiers and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections, visits and ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities, facilities and personnel as prescribed by the commander; ensures adherence to command policies; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instruction; ensures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs of the service and command regulations or policies; responsible for monitoring training or conducts training of enlisted soldiers; assesses training at all levels and provides feedback to appropriate commanders and leaders; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted soldiers of the command; responsible for and provides guidance on Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and Non-Commissioned Officer Development Program (NCODP); inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; serves as president or member of command promotion board or removal board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; sits as chairperson or member of a command's "Military Member of the Quarter/Year" competition for enlisted soldiers or NCOs, as directed by local regulations; responsible for quality, control and training of non-commissioned officer evaluation reports (NCOER) while ensuring timely submissions; reviews evaluation reports to determine compliance with policies and procedures and recommends corrective actions on deficiencies to commanders, other leaders and rating officials; performs other duties prescribed by the commander; assists in the professional development of junior and company grade officer.

Identifies foreign communications in an assigned geographic area and categorizes signals by activity type; extracts essential elements of information from foreign transmissions to support mission reporting requirements; scans written foreign communications material for key words and indicators; recognizes changes in transmission modes and tips the appropriate analytical or intercept authority; provides translation expertise to analysts; provides written records, hand copied or gisted, of intercepted foreign communications; operates systems as needed to support SIGINT tasking, reporting and coordination; provides guidance to subordinate Soldiers; supervises team level foreign communications processing operations; intercepts, identifies and records foreign communications transmissions; operates systems configured to collect and produce written records of foreign communications; translates and transcribes foreign communication intercepts; provides guidance to subordinate Soldiers; collects and simultaneously produces on-line activity records of foreign communications transmissions containing complex technical terminology, syntax and conversational structures; supervises communications signal collection and processing activities and determines priorities; identifies and performs limited analysis on communications signals; implement SIGINT emergency action plans; supervises squad level communication intercept operations; provide quality control of SIGINT products; MOSC 98G3L only; serves as unit Command Language Program Manager.
