Performs and supervises detection, acquisition, geolocation, identification, and exploitation and analysis of foreign communications at all echelons.

The Intelligence Sergeant Major serves as the principal enlisted assistant to commanders and heads of staff elements, and as staff NCO for major commands, in multi-echelon, joint and combined intelligence organizations, and fixed and tactical units engaged in signals intelligence/electronic warfare (SIGINT/EW) operations; supervises intelligence activities and provides technical, operational, and administrative guidance and direction to enlisted Soldiers at all echelons; supervises implementation of a command logistics inspection program and a command maintenance inspection program across intelligence organizations; develops material fielding plans and integrated logistics support plans for new Military Intelligence or Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems, and coordinates appropriate level support to intelligence organizations; reviews doctrinal publications, provides input to the DOTLMPF process and prepares recommended changes; compares modification Tables of Organization and Equipment (MTOE) and Tables of Distribution and Allowances (TDA) authorization documents with intelligence missions and functions and recommends revisions; provides advice and makes recommendations to the commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted soldiers and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections, visits and ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities, facilities and personnel as prescribed by the commander; ensures adherence to command policies; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instruction; ensures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs of the service and command regulations or policies; responsible for monitoring training or conducts training of enlisted soldiers; assesses training at all levels and provides feedback to appropriate commanders and leaders; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted soldiers of the command; responsible for and provides guidance on Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and Non-Commissioned Officer Development Program (NCODP); inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; serves as president or member of command promotion board or removal board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; sits as chairperson or member of a command's Military Member of the Quarter/Year competition for enlisted soldiers or NCOs, as directed by local regulations; responsible for quality, control and training of noncommissioned officer evaluation reports (NCOER) while ensuring timely submissions; reviews evaluation reports to determine compliance with policies and procedures and recommends corrective actions on deficiencies to commanders, other leaders and rating officials; performs other duties prescribed by the commander; assists in the professional development of junior and company grade officer; provides advice and makes recommendations to the commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted soldiers and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections, visits and ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities, facilities and personnel as prescribed by the commander; ensures adherence to command policies.

Performs duties shown in preceding skill levels and provides guidance to subordinates; supervise multi mode foreign communications intercept and processing; refine Essential Elements of Information requirements for identification and extraction; determine EW (EA/EP/ES) requirements for supported units; supervise collection management; coordinate collection activities across multiple disciplines and platforms.

Identifies foreign communications from an assigned geographic area and categorizes signals by activity type; analyzes foreign communication for information to support mission reporting requirements; recognizes changes in transmission modes and tips the appropriate analytical or intercept authority; provides translation expertise to analysts; provides gists, transcriptions, or translations of foreign communications; operates systems as needed to support SIGINT tasking, reporting and coordination; performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinates; leads independent team level foreign communications processing operations; supervises the language training of subordinates; performs duties shown in preceding skill levels and provides guidance to subordinates; directs section communications signal collection and processing activities and determines priorities; implement SIGINT emergency action plans in accordance with unit SOP; provide quality control of SIGINT products; serves as unit Command Language Program Manager.
