Supervises and performs maintenance on multi-cord common-battery manual, semiautomatic and automatic telephone switchboards.
Plans, coordinates, directs, and supervises the installation, operation and management of integrated manual and automated communications systems in support of organizations at all levels; provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds first sergeants' or sergeants' major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.
Must be able to perform the duties of Central Office Switchboard Operator (72C20); supervises telephone switchboard operations; schedules operator shift personnel as needed to conform with the requirements of traffic workload; observes operators for technique and conformance with procedures; monitors conversations between operators and callers to determine operator proficiency, responsiveness, cooperation and tact; instructs on routing of long distance and trunk calls; maintains updated traffic diagrams for operator reference and corrects faulty operator techniques by demonstration and instruction; supervises performance of preventive maintenance of switchboards and auxiliary equipment; maintains station logs to reflect an operating record of central office switchboard activities; requisitions supplies; and reviews, consolidates, and prepares operational and administrative reports.
Installs, connects, operates and performs operator maintenance on the multi-cord common-battery manual, semi-automatic and automatic telephone-switchboards and auxiliary equipment; assists in the emplacement of mobile switch-boards; performs related administrative functions in telephone central office; employs operator procedures to obtain caller's request and makes necessary connections; places long distance calls and monitors circuits to assure completion of calls through successive exchanges; makes circuit checks to ascertain proper functioning of circuits; reads traffic and cabling diagrams; responds rapidly and resourcefully to high priority and emergency requests; uses directories and related reference information in completing calls or providing information service; uses hand-tools, such as electrician's knife, pliers and screwdriver; employs maximum communications security consistent with operational requirements.
